Bengals lock up Johnson

Fullback Jeremi Johnson got a six-year contract Friday from the Cincinnati Bengals, who value his blocking and versatility.

Johnson, a three-year starter, was a restricted free agent before he signed a one-year, $712,000 US deal on Thursday. He wanted to stay in Cincinnati long-term, and had agent Peter Schaffer continue negotiations.

The new deal replaces his 2006 contract and adds five more years, keeping him signed through 2011. He'll get an average of $1.5 million per year.

"He pushed very hard to get this done," coach Marvin Lewis said.

Johnson was a fourth-round pick from Western Kentucky in 2003. He has been Rudi Johnson's primary blocker, helping him run for more than 2,900 yards over the last two seasons.

He also carried eight times for 14 yards last season, and caught 12 passes for 65 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cincinnati Bengals lines have reached a contract in principle with unrestricted free-agent defensive tackle Sam Adams, a member of the Buffalo Bills the past three seasons.

According to ESPN.com, the 6-foot-4, 335-pound Adams can make up to $4 million this season if he reaches certain performance levels. The Bengals want Adams, a three-time All-Pro in 12 seasons with Seattle, Baltimore, Oakland and Buffalo, to take a physical before completing the deal.

More deals: New Orleans signed wide receiver Chris Horn to a two-year contract and re-signed defensive tackle Cedric Woodard to a one-year deal.

Horn has mostly been a reserve in three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He had 18 catches for 187 yards last season in 14 games with three starts.

He also was fourth on the club in special teams tackles with 16. In his NFL career, he has 33 receptions for 365 yards with one touchdown.

Woodard was picked up by the Saints last season after spending his first five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He was signed for the final five games of 2005 by New Orleans, but listed as inactive for every game. ...
